Gammer Gurton's Needle is an interest group exploring many different handwork techniques including, but not limited to, embroidery, lacis, bobbin lace, needle lace, inkle loom and tablet weaving, lucet cording, needlepoint, etc.

Called Gammer Gurton's Needle after the play of the same name, we began meeting once a week in November A.S. XXXIII (1998 C.E.). By discussing a topic of interest every month or so, we have been able to explore many types of period handwork, have benefitted from the teaching of many accomplished al-Barranians and other guest teachers, and have steadily grown in members. We have undertaken to provide handmade largesse for our barony and for our kingdom and are making for members of the baronial rapier society their special awards, the Espada de Oro and the Cordon Scorpion.

If you cannot make the meetings, we have copies of all instructions and patterns and can make arrangements for individual meetings with teachers. Also, we have a Gammer Gurton's Needle monthly demonstration at fighter practice in conjunction with the monthly tourney. This will provide another chance for instruction and sharing, since not everyone can attend on Monday evenings. Please let Lady Rosamond know if you want special instruction on any of our past projects and she will try to have a teacher at the fighter practice park for you.

This site shows some examples of the different techniques we have explored and has information about what we are doing. We will continue to learn and improve, provide more articles of beauty to our barony, and enjoy the wonderful camaraderie we have found through Gammer Gurton's Needle.
